The OverThinker: One Tip Against Every Support Ultimate

Hello and welcome to The OverThinker. In this post, I'll be sharing one tip to deal with every Support ultimate in Overwatch. Let's begin. 1. Ana's Nano-Boost : Figure out how Ana plans to use the Nano, and change your playstyle accordingly . For me, when Ana's got heroes like Winston, Pharah, Genji and Soldier on her team, it's obvious she's going to Nano one of them when they ult/want to go aggressive. In such situations, I position accordingly and save the right resources to counter what's about to come my team's way. For instance, if you're anticipating a Nano-Blade, ask your Ana to save her Sleep Dart for it, or your Lucio, to Beat in response to it. If you're predicting a Nano-Visor, avoid playing in open spaces and be ready to take cover at any time. Sometimes though, there won't be any obvious Nano target for the Ana, in which case she might use her ult defensively, either to save a teammate, stall the point, or simply try and clutch ...

The OverThinker: One Tip Against Every Tank Ultimate

Hey everyone, welcome to The OverThinker! In this post, I'll be giving you guys one tip to deal with every tank ultimate in Overwatch. Let's begin! 1. D.Va's Self-Destruct : In preparation for a D.Va Bomb, be sure to play near hard cover and/or save your movement cooldowns to escape its blast radius . You could also try and block its damage with a friendly barrier, but since those can be broken, disabled, or ulted around, they are a less-reliable option, and you should prioritise using hard cover instead. Not all victims of a D.Va bomb do a rockstar impression 2. Orisa's Supercharger : When the Horse Goddess pulls out her bongo, you should try to destroy it quickly, but if doing so is risky, you should retreat and play passively until it runs out . Taking out a Supercharger is a high-value play, but you must make sure you don't die trying to make it. If you've got a low-risk ultimate like Doomfist's Meteor Strike or Tracer's Pulse Bomb on hand, you can u...

The OverThinker: Deconstructing Dive

Amongst the many compositions that have been meta in Overwatch in its nearly-five years of existence, none is quite as challenging albeit thrilling to play as Dive. Its high tempo, constant action, and split-second decision-making create fun and exciting team fights for everyone involved...provided they're playing the comp right, which brings us to today's topic: Deconstructing Dive . After experiencing Dive on ladder, or at least what players perceive to be Dive, it's clear that despite loving the composition to death, our community for the most part doesn't know how to play it. I've seen players that simply pick Dive characters but don't coordinate their engages, or pick poorly around  teammates that are trying to play it correctly, or heck, even play willingly into heroes that clearly counter their composition. All this stems from a lack of awareness or lack of information about what exactly Dive is and how you should play it, so I'm going to attempt to...

The OverThinker: 4 Tips to Help You Land the Best Gravs Possible

When it comes to ultimates in Overwatch, it's hard to beat the effectiveness of a well-timed, well-placed Graviton Surge. A powerful ability that can hold your opponents in place for a few seconds, there's no better tool in the game to set the enemy team up to take a ton of damage. As a Zarya player, it's a matter of pride to land some juicy Gravs, which is why it's extra-disappointing when you barely get value out of one.  As an off-tank player, I understand that feeling aplenty, and would like to share 4 key tips with all of you so that you can land the best Gravs possible. Let's begin. 1. Always have high energy when you Grav A common mistake I see Zarya players make is throwing out Gravitons when they're low on energy. This is a poor decision on multiple levels, especially if you're not planning to combo the Grav with something. First of all, if you're playing with randoms, there's no telling whether or not your Grav will be followed-...

The OverThinker: How To Eat Ultimates as D.Va

Hey everyone, welcome back to The OverThinker, where we dive deep into topics concerning the core game of Overwatch. It's been a while since my last upload in this series, but I'm back with something unique and hopefully useful!  In this post, I'll be sharing my insights into eating ultimates as D.Va, which is something I've gotten fairly good at in recent times. Currently, D.Va is my most-played hero; I've got around 200 hours on her on ladder, and have learnt how to use her kit in various situations on all kinds of maps. She's a very powerful hero by design and utility, but is also very easy to play incorrectly. Unlike Roadhog, Zarya, and even Sigma, D.Va's offensive tools are the least impressive parts of her kit. She's an 'off-tank' in the true sense of the term, and playing her requires a unique approach and mindset that you can't use with any other of Overwatch's 32 characters. When you play D.Va, you're supposed to be the prima...
